Jacob is one of the brightest superstars in the Dutch pigeon scene. In 2007 he won 1st National Champion Young Birds and 1st National Champion One Day Long Distance, Section 8. His family of birds based on Koen Minderhout, Gaby Vandenabeele, Koopman, Dirk Van Dyck, Marijke Vink and Janssen, provide exceptional results on a weekly basis.
He has lived at his present address since 2002 and races 28 pair on the double widowhood system. He has 60 pair of breeders and raises 100 youngsters for his flying team. Jacob is a hard task master and prefers to loft fly his teams for upto 2 hours per day. The youngsters are left out and the traps are not closed at night. They fly until late and start at the crack of dawn. Jacob believes in feeding the best of all grains with candy seed and peanuts added. He prefers to over feed at the end of the week.
The quality of his birds shows not only in his results, but also for others. The 1st young acebird in Berlin[Germany] winning 7 out of 7 races is from a Poortvliet hen. The 1st provincial acebird in Friesland in 2007 is 50% Poortvliet, a sister to Blue Magic. The quickest European in the oneloft race in China is 50% Poortvliet, out of the Gaby-Jannssen lines
